A savory Filipino beef dish of tender marinated slices simmered in soy-lemon sauce and topped with caramelized onions—comforting and bright.

Ingredients

  • 0.453592 kg beef
  • 5 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 pcs lemon
  • 3 pcs garlic
  • 3 pcs onion
  • 4 tbsp olive oil
  • 240 ml water
  • 0.001 kg salt

Directions

  • Marinate beef in soy sauce, lemon juice and ground black pepper for at least 1 hour (overnight for best result).
  • Heat olive oil in a pan and pan-fry half of the onions until soft, then set aside.
  • Drain the marinade from the beef and set marinade aside. Pan-fry the beef 1 minute per side in the same pan, then remove and set aside.
  • Add more oil if needed and sautĂ© garlic and remaining raw onions until onions soften.
  • Pour in the reserved marinade and water, bring to a boil.
  • Add beef, cover and simmer until meat is tender, adding water as needed.
  • Season with ground black pepper and salt to taste, top with pan-fried onions.
  • Transfer to a serving plate and serve hot.
