Krispy Kreme Donut

Ingredients

Donut dough & general

  • 0.25 oz yeast
  • 0.25 cup warm water
  • 1.5 cup water for dough
  • 0.5 cup sugar (dough)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 pcs eggs
  • 0.333 cup shortening
  • 5 drops flour (initial)
  • canola oil (for dusting)
  • 0.5 cup milk
  • 2 cups sugar (additional)
  • 1.5 cups vanilla (for glaze)
  • 6 tbsp boiling water
  • 0.333 cup butter (glaze)

Glaze

  • 0.333 cup butter (glaze)
  • powdered sugar
  • vanilla (glaze)
  • water (glaze)

Directions

  • Dissolve yeast in warm water in a 2.5‑quart bowl.
  • Add milk, sugar, salt, eggs, shortening and 2 cups flour to the yeast mixture.
  • Beat on low for 30 seconds, scraping bowl constantly.
  • Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes, scraping bowl occasionally.
  • Stir in remaining flour until smooth.
  • Cover and let dough rise until double, about 50–60 minutes (dough ready when indentation remains).
  • Turn dough onto floured surface and lightly coat with flour.
  • Roll dough to 0.5 inch thickness and cut with floured donut cutter.
  • Cover and let cut donuts rise until double, 30–40 minutes.
  • Heat vegetable oil in deep fryer to 350°F (175°C).
  • Slide donuts into hot oil with a wide spatula and turn as they rise to the surface.
  • Fry until golden brown, about 1 minute per side; remove and drain without pricking.
  • Dip warm donuts into glaze set on a rack and let set.
