Rich no-bake Canadian layered bars with a crumbly chocolatey base, creamy custard middle and glossy dark chocolate topping—sweet, indulgent squares perfect for snacks or dessert.

Ingredients
base
3 tbsp custard powder
50 g caster sugar
5 tbsp cocoa powder
1 pcs egg beaten
200 g digestive biscuits shredded
100 g desiccated coconut
50 g almonds chopped (optional)
100 g butter for base
middle (custard icing)
4 tbsp double cream
100 g butter for custard icing
250 g icing sugar
top
150 g dark chocolate
50 g butter for topping
Directions
Line a 20cm square tin and press the base mixture into the tin then chill 10 mins
For the base: melt 100g butter with 50g caster sugar and 5 tbsp cocoa over simmering water until smooth
Whisk in the beaten egg for 2–3 mins until mixture thickens then remove from heat
Mix in 200g shredded digestive biscuits, 100g desiccated coconut and 50g almonds (if using) and press into the prepared tin
Chill base 10 mins
For the middle: whisk together 100g butter, 4 tbsp double cream and 3 tbsp custard powder until light and fluffy
Gradually add 250g icing sugar until fully incorporated and spread over chilled base then refrigerate until set (at least 10 mins)
Melt 150g dark chocolate with 50g butter (microwave or double boiler) and spread over chilled custard layer
Chill until chocolate is fully set (about 2 hours) then remove from tin and slice into squares to serve
